Fly Fishing

The Yakima River is a fly fisherman’s favorite for catching Rainbow, Steelhead and Cutthroat trout. Summer’s the best time to fish in this blue-ribbon river, but fishermen come here year-round. Miles of scenic river meander through the Yakima Canyon, making the area one of the premier spots for fishing in the Northwest. The canyon is 27 miles long, with 21 of those in Kittitas County.

Vehicle Use Permits are free when purchasing a fishing or hunting license or a Watchable Wildlife Decal package.

Vehicle Use Permits are required for anyone using a Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFD) access area. They are clearly marked and specifically made for parking. The permits can be used for up to two vehicles. Place permits in full view from outside the vehicle and have the vehicle’s license plate number written on the permit. Federal lands require a different permit, so be aware where you are parking and make sure you have the right permit! For more permit information go to: WDFW Licensing & Permits/Fishing
