In Historic Downtown Ellensburg

Moments to Remember is an all-day event and longtime local tradition, always taking place on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Come downtown and enjoy a day full of family-friendly activities, to kick off the Christmas Season.

  • Plaid Friday, normal business hours
  • Teddy Bear's First Christmas play at Fitterer's, 1 pm
  • Cookie Scavenger Hunt, 2-4 pm
  • Dancing in the State Farm windows 5 pm
  • Safeway Tree Lighting 6:15 pm
  • Downtown tree lighting, 7 pm
  • Streets of Bethlehem, 7:05 pm

A bit of small-town America still lives in the heart of Central Washington. For the past 30 years, the Friday following Thanksgiving has drawn hundreds of people into downtown Ellensburg to mark the start of the holiday season -- literally -- with a flip of a switch. When darkness falls, many of Ellensburg's historic downtown buildings come alive with more than 10,000 Christmas lights outlining their facades. The lighting ceremony marks the highlight in a day full of family-friendly events designed to usher in the holiday spirit.
